There is no doubt that we should always eat food in balanced to keep fit and healthy but while you are pregnant you have to be extra careful to eat food. Before I proceed with what food should not be eaten during pregnancy would like to clear one thing to all pregnant women that during pregnancy you don’t needs to eat food for two people may be several people advise you but while you consult with Obstetrician or Gynecologist they will recommend that you need only 300 more calories than your normal diet.
Well I am not a Gynecologist but we can understand the simple logic that a baby who is below 9 month how can they eat equal to an adult person? It doesn’t make any sense so make a healthy diet and avoid below mentioned foods during your pregnancy because it could harm your unborn baby.
List of Foods Women Should Not Eat During Pregnancy
Avoid Caffeine During Pregnancy
In routine life intake of Caffeine is OK but for the pregnant lady it’s like a poison. Why I am saying so because it is observe that intake of heavy diet of caffeine may cause low birth weight or miscarriage that sound really looks scary. So, it would be great if you stop drinking caffeine in-case you are unable to control yourself and need caffeine then it’s best not to have more than 200mg of caffeine a day which intake two cups of instant coffee, two cups of tea or five cans of cola a day. My personal opinion for Coffee and Tea lover women is that if possible lay off your coffee and tea for few month can continue after coming your baby in this world.
Avoid Unpasteurized Cheese During Pregnancy
If you are big lover of cheese so be little careful during your pregnancy because imported soft cheese may contains bacteria namely “Listeria” and it may cause miscarriage. So, buy branded cheese which clearly state that they made from pasteurized milk. Read more about Listeria here.
Avoid Unpasteurized Milk During Pregnancy
Well its good idea to use dairy products during pregnancy because it helps to supplement your calcium requirements but stay away from unpasteurized milk because it may contain bacteria name Listeria which can cause miscarriage.
Avoid Raw Eggs
Don’t eat undercooked or raw eggs of any foods which contain the raw eggs, like as local shop pastry, cake, ice cream, custards or homemade mayonnaise or any food which contains raw egg avoid it to eat. If you ever eager to eat the egg then please cooked properly then can intake to protect youself from salmonella food poisoning.
Don’t Eat Large Predatory Fish in Pregnancy
There are several types of fish which pregnant lady should not intake and the list of such fish is bigger so in short don’t use fishes large predatory fishes few examples are shark, swordfish, king mackerel or tilefish. Instead of this Avoid raw fish and raw shellfish isn’t safe while you are pregnant, because it may cause food poisoning. Cook sea food or fish properly before intake.
Don’t Eat Raw Meat and Poultry
It is similar to fish so avoid raw or uncooked seafood also undercooked beef or poultry because it may tainted with colifrom bacteria, salmonella and toxoplasmosis.
Avoid Street Food in Pregnancy
Not all the street food are bad for the pregnant lady but go to popular shops of your local area because they use good things in comparison to any random street food provider. Having street food may make prone to infection. The reason one should keep away from indulging in too much street food is because if an illness strikes, medication would be inevitable, and all medications are not good for the baby.
Stop Beverage (Alcohol) in Pregnancy
To be honest I believe that there are very less Indian women who drink wine if you are one of them so want to disappoint to you. As you are in pregnancy tenure so the best idea is to stop drinking alcohol. If you are inhabited of alcohol then obviously it’s not possible for you but you can reduce the number of drinks so it would be great if you drinks only one or two units of alcohol once or twice a week.
Avoid Cigarettes in Pregnancy
Obviously smoking cigarettes is not good for anyone then how it could healthy for pregnant lady? As it contains nicotine, carbon monoxide and tar within while you smoke it also reached to your womb and harm your baby.
Instead of this few daily Items which should avoid by the pregnant lady are sandwich, bakery bread, bun, dhokla, pizza, handva, pancake, khaman, steamed rice cake, curd, tomato, tamarind, kadhi usually increase the swellings and acidity. So, try to avoid such item but if such problems do not exist, you can take in small quantity.
Special Note for Indian Women: Please don’t carry out fasts during pregnancy because it’s not good for you and your baby’s health.
